Install file path incorrect.

Hi Tim,

I am running Win7, 64bit. I have encountered an interesting problem - while the installation destination includes the correct directory during the install process, my files always end up being in the root C:\ directory.

i.e. C:\Visual.Micro.AS6.dll, C:\Visual.Micro.TaskDialog.dll etc

No C:\Program Files (x86)\VisualMicro etc. directory is created.

I assume this is some Win7 permissions issue. I do have admin rights however generally when installing something it will pop-up at the start and ask if you want to give the installer permission (the installation file will also have a visual "sheild" icon over it indicating that is requires the elevated permissions to run).

Note this happened with the 1305.21 version and the current stable release.

Let me know if there is any further information you need Smiley

Kind regards,
Dan

Thanks, I don't know why that is, no one else reported it but I will of course look into why that might be. As you say, maybe a permission error is not being reported allowing the installer to continue.

I would tell you how to move the files but I hope the installer in the next release fixes the problem. Moving the files manually might mean the uninstall will fail which would be more of a hassle for you to fix before applying the next vm release.

Thanks for the report, if you would like to know how to move the files then feel free to say.

Hi Tim,

Thanks for the quick replies. I personally don't mind the files being where they are - it causes no issues and everything appears to work correctly. And as you say, moving them manually could well cause issues with the uninstall.

I do wonder however if this is why there has been no reports of similar behavior. i.e. It if all works there is no reason to look Wink

Thanks, the install path is also shown in tools>options>visual micro>version so I would expect some others to have noticed this problem.

Maybe this thread will attract some more reports.

Thanks again for the report, I assuming that when you run the repair on the installer it points to c:\?

Hi Tim, thats right yes.

Update: Hi Tim, I just tried this on another PC. This time it works as expected and the files are in the correct location. i.e. C:\Program Files (x86)\Visual Micro

Interestingly I noted on this PC install it did pop-up with a permissions dialog that I needed to accept before the install would continue - beats me as to the difference between setups, both Win7, x64:)

Ill let you know if I find any further details but for now I'm clueless Cheesy

If the installer thinks it should go to c:\ that sounds like a keyboard key was accidentally pressed during the first install which cleared the default path to c:\

So I don't think this is a permissions error or installer bug. I can confirm that the default path is c:\program files

Hi Tim, I can create a small video if you want, there is no rouge key-press Wink Then again its probably best to close the issue and put it down to an odd state of my PC.  Smiley
