Can't start new project in Visual Studio 2013

Hi!
I've just installed Visual Micro on a fresh Visualstudio 2013 RC1 install.

But i cant find the "Arduino Project" in File -> New Menu

I Have a greyed out line that says Sketch Project.
In tool menu i have visual micro but all the sub menus are empty.

I currently hav arduino IDE 1.5.4 r2 but tried with 1.0.4 to with almost the same result. (Slight difference in the Tool->Visual Micro menu)

Anyone know how to solve this problem?

Best regards
Nicklas Haraldsson

Hi,

Not sure why you have this problem. The following is a list of actions you can perform to find a fix.

nb: I assume that when you tried 1.0.4 you used the Arduino 1.0.x option and for 1.5.4 you used the 1.5.x option in Visual Micro?

Each action is a task in its own right so if an action works you do not need to continue reading the rest of this post  Smiley

1) Did you previously have visual micro installed in a different visual studio version or is this a new install of vm as well?

2) Does "tools>Addin manager" show Visual Micro as an entry and has it got two/three ticks?

3) In Tools>Options>Visual Micro>Version. What version is displayed?

4) Please close VS2013 and then open task manager to ensure that all devenv.exe processes are terminated (if any). Then re-start VS2013.

5) Can you see the menu item "Tools>Visual Micro>Reset User Interface"? If so click it and wait for VS2013 to auto-re-start.

6) Close VS, then edit the short cut for VS 2013. Add the /resetaddin command to the end of the short cut program name like so...

Code
Select All
[path to devenv.exe] /resetaddin Visual.Micro.Visual.Studio.Arduino.Helper

Then click the shortcut to re-start VS2013

Correct i use the proper version setting! Checked and double checked now Smiley

1) No, this is a brand new computer.

2) Yes and it is active (left box checked) and startup is checked but not Command Line

3) 1.1309.11

4) Done, same problem

5) No

6) After running the reset addin the menuitem file-> new ->  sketch project was gone but tools -> visual micro was present
Restarted again without the command and sketch project is back but still not selectable

Here is an image on how it looks:

Hi, I don't know why this is happening. VS 2013 worked okay when we tested it. We will try to give some thought to what is different on your machine.

Sorry

Just ask if you need more info or want me to do some tests.

I'm glad to help if we can find out whats wrong and maybe improve visual micro for others!

Thanks. It's confusing we have thousands of people working okay and I know there are quite a few 2013 users. I am sure it will be something simple but it is frustrating.

Maybe it is a problem with RC2, I will install it, I have been using the 2013 preview for my tests.

In the meantime you could try another VS version or Atmel

Sounds like a bug in 2013 Rc, how about trying 2013 Preview?

Hello,

Sorry for the delay. We have found that Visual Micro only works in Visual Studio 2013 if Visual Studio 2012 is installed. We didn't find this issue earlier because all of our computer have 2012 installed.

We will fix this for the next release hopefully over the next few weeks.

Once again, sorry for the wasted time and thanks for taking time to report.

I'm still having the exactly same problem with my VS 2013 Ultimate istallation and the Visual Micro Plugin 1.1309.11.
I also did not have any previous VS version installed.
Are there any news how to fix this without installing an older VS?

Hi, we are hoping to publish a new release over the next week.

For now, I know VS 2012 is a big download but you only to install VS 2012 Pro with VC++. You do not need to run or activate it.

Sorry about the problem, please switch on notifications in the new releases section of this forum for an email when the beta is released. Thanks

I seem to have the same problem. VS 2010 works but 2013 behaves almost exactly as described, but my Serial Port and Other Serial Port menus are expandable even though they are empty. I'm pretty sure I never installed 2012 on this PC so I'll look forward to the next release fixing it. Smiley

Hi all,

Thanks for your patience. An initial release is here https://visualmicro.codeplex.com/releases/view/106554

It includes support for VS 2013 without ever having installed VS2012.

Sorry for the delay and thanks for your patience.

I just installed the new version and there is no joy for me. In fact, now I get the following error when I try to open the dialogue to check my IDE paths.

Could not load file or assembly 'Visual.Micro.TaskDialog, Version=3.5.0.70, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=30ead9b26b39d9a1' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

Hi,

That error means that Visual Studio had not shut down fully when installing the update. You have a Visual Micro version mismatch.

Please close Visual Studio, then open task manager and ensure there are no devenv.exe processes running. Terminate the if you see any.

Then run the visual micro installer and click Uninstall then run again and click install. That will fix it.

In case you have any missing menu items after that ...

When you have this fixed please report if you have a Tools>Visual Micro>Reset User Interface? If you do then click it and let VS restart.

Then after re-start please confirm if you see a list of boards on the tool bar?

If you do not have a list of boards please confirm which Arduino Ide option you have used to configure your Arduino path and confirm what the path is?

Thanks
