BUT IT STILL CRASHES, big time! On single keystroke in editor.
I need to take a break and do some productive coding - back to Arduino IDE. YUCK!

As for keystroke crashes in Atmel Studio this is very frustrating for you.  Do you have any extensions installed via Tools>Addin Manager or Tools>Extension Manager?

I recommend reporting this problem to Atmel Support explaining that the crashes happen with or without Visual Micro being installed. I can also confirm that Visual Micro does not detect any Editor events and therefore can not be causing this problem.

Thanks for persisting!

Short update
I can edit .cpp file, but a single keystroke kills the XP while editing .ino file.
BTW ATmel  folks told me few weeks ago to go to this site to fix this.
And no, I am not running any add-ons but Arduino IDE.

Please confirm the version of Atmel Studio from help>about

Please send a screen shot of the entire ide with an .ino file open for editing to info [at] visualmicro.com

I was going to use Crash reporter help package but have no clue how and there seems to be no easy way to delete it either.
Let's fix the crasher first OK.

Thanks for the good information. I am running exactly the same version of Atmel and VisualAssixtX as you are.

This is a problem with VisualAssixtX which is installed with Atmel Studio.

Before we report it to WholeTomatoe the manufacturers we need to be clear about some things. I asked for screen image of your ide to be emailed. Please do that, try to copy this picture. Thanks
