Before logging an issue, please update to the latest release of Visual Micro from the Downloads Page.

Intermittent problem uploading to Pro Mini in VisualStudio 2013

I never had this problem with the Arduino IDE, but in VisualStudio 2013, I'm having intermittent errors on upload to the Arduino Pro Mini. (maybe other boards too, but I haven't tried them). 

Compilation is fine, but I will often times have to start with (or without) debugging several times before it uploads the code to the controller.

I may be able to upload several times in a row and then several times it won't upload after compile.

The error isn't always the same, but usually looks like the output message below:

Compiling 'Marvel_Electro' for 'Arduino Pro or Pro Mini (5V, 16 MHz) w/ ATmega328'
Binary sketch size: 19,458 bytes (used 63% of a 30,720 byte maximum) (3.07 secs)

The usb debugger has been activated in 'Automatic Debugging' mode
.
Compiling debug version of 'Marvel_Electro' for 'Arduino Pro or Pro Mini (5V, 16 MHz) w/ ATmega328'
Binary sketch size: 20,974 bytes (used 68% of a 30,720 byte maximum) (3.44 secs)
Uploading to I/O board using 'COM12'
avrdude: ser_open(): can't open device "\\.\COM12": Access is denied.

Hi Gyan,

Please see if there is a difference if you switch off "Tools>Options>Visual Micro>Communications>Auto Reconnect"

That doesn't seem to fix it. It just took 3 tries of hitting F5 before it would successfully upload.

Hi Gyan,

Thanks for trying that. This sounds like we need a longer pause between opening and closing the port to force a reset prior to the upload.

I think I have a pro mini somewhere but it would be useful to confirm exactly which usb driver you have installed so we can replicate. Please ensure the board is plugged in then look in "device manager>port>properties". What is the date and time and make/manufacturer of the driver?

Windows 8.1 pro with media center. 64bit (OS and processor, VS2013 Ultimate. Sparkfun FTDI with usb2 cable and port.

Thanks. I will re-test with an ftdi cable and have ordered a board and cable. 

Hopefully get the same results as you.

It might take a few days before I get any results. I'll let you know when I do.
