I have VisualStudio 2013 Express for Windows Desktop and VM doesn't show up at all. When I click on 'new project' nothing Arduinoish or VMish shows up.

Hi,

Sorry to say Microsoft do not allow the express version of VS to support addins

Atmel Studio is free and based on Visual Studio 2010. You can download it from here http://www.atmel.com/tools/atmelstudio.aspx

You will then need to run the Visual Micro installer again so that Atmel knows to load the addin

Having just spent an hour messing about installing VS Express then Visual Micro, not getting any error messages on installing it but then being unable to find it in VS Express, reinstalling Visual Micro, then reinstalling VS Express and Visual Micro, then finally finding a not very obvious post on this forum, might I suggest that your installer should look to see if only VS Express is installed and if so pop up a warning that Visual Micro will not work?

I was hoping to start on a project tonight, but that's not going to happen. I've got a day job and a small daughter and it's not like I have a huge amount of spare time to mess about with this sort of entirely avoidable and silent error. Angry

I'm now downloading Atmel Studio.

@Tom

Thanks for your post. The link at the top of the home page "Need an Ide?" which then shows a title of Atmel Studio (free ide) was supposed to make the point but it did used to be more clearly documented so will re-add to the home page.
