In upgrade limbo

Hi, been looking for a similar problem in the posts.. cant find one... but its a jungle.
Anyway, I upgraded atmel studio, and saw I had to reinstall visualmicro... was no longer there.
when I downloaded and started the install, it had a problem finding the install package in a windows temp folder.  I browsed to where I downloaded it and it complained that it wasn't a valid installer... I am guessing it is a different version fromt he one that needed to be uninstalled.
I uninstalled from control panel.. no help.  tried a free uninstaller, no joy.  searched out all references to visual micro in registry and deleted... still no good.
how do I get a fresh start?
thanks

Hi,

Sorry to hear of the issue. All I can say is that we use the standard microsoft installer based on .net3.5.

The registry and other similar things won't make any difference.

I would download the installer to a local folder such as mydocuments and then try to run it. Ensure you have admin permissions and .net 3.5 enabled.

yep.... I did that... it is trying to uninstall the older version, then it says it needs the install file but it is looking in a temp directory.  when I re-point to my local copy, it says it isn't a valid install file.  is there a problem with that file being a newer version than the one being uninstalled?  maybe?
thanks.

Sounds like a dll is locked. maybe an ide isn't fully shutdown.  Did you try re-booting?

Otherwise try uninstall via "control panel>visual micro" then run the install
