OT... This Webpage is not available

Hi, new user here, sorry to start off with an off topic question.

I have 3 computers here, Windows Tablet, Laptop and Desktop. All are running Win 8.1 with Chrome as the browser, all are on the same wifi connection and all are running eset as a firewall / AV. All can connect to the visualmicro site, but only two can connect to the forums, the tablet and laptop. The desktop returns the following when I try to connect to the forums:

This webpage is not available
details
The webpage at http://www.visualmicro.com/forums might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.
Error Code: ERR_CONTENT_DECODING_FAILED

If I use IE on the desktop, it too will fail to connect to the forums.

I have cleared cache and history, turned off the firewall and AV, still no joy. Any thoughtas as to what the problem may be??

Thanks

Hi,

both my portable and tower running Win 7 can access the forum in Chrome  Huh.

I searched for the error code you get, and found that:

http://superuser.com/questions/172951/chrome-error-330-neterr-content-decoding-f... this one looks interesting.

Looks like this is related to content encoding. But you run the same OS and browser on all of them. Puzzling to say the least. Could the desktop have extensions that would foul the browser ?

A search on ERR_CONTENT_DECODING_FAILED brings a lot of pages.

Thanks for the comments, the extensions are the same on all copies of chrome. The whole computer install is new. I just wiped Win 7 off and installed Win 8.1.

I did disable all extensions, but to no avail. The fact it fails on both chrome and IE tends to suggest it is not a router problem but something else within the computer. Angry

OK, it has to be something generic to Browsers. I just did a clean install of FireFox and same end result with this message

Code
Select All
Content Encoding Error
The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression.
Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem

Well that didn't last long!! All worked well until I installed ESET 8 (firewall/antivirus), then the problem started up again. It seems that ESET is installing something into windows to introduce this behaviour across all browsers. Uninstalled ESET, all works well. Installed previous version of ESET, all works well. So apologies to Mr. Gates and over to ESET

A laptop with W81 32bit and ESET8 and Firefox makes no problems. My second laptop with W81 64bit, ESET8 and Firefox worked, until I wanted to login today. Since then, it also shows this error message, and only when using Visul Micro forum. The rest of the world seems to be ok.
I am writing now from 32 bit machine ..

Uh Oh, hope I haven't started an epidemic!

Reverting to ESET v7 should cure the problem. I have been over on the ESET forum, and there does seem to be an issue with V8 and 64 bit.

Update.

I have contacted ESET, and there was a bug in their software. It has been corrected and will be available in the next internet protection module (probably 1176B).
