possible to install with arduino 1.6?
Feb 13th, 2015 at 2:36pm
Print Post
Just installing for the first time and i'm wondering if it's possible to install using arduino 1.6 ? it only gives me the option to install with 1.0 and 1.5 so that should answer by it self, but i'm wondering if i could just go ahead and choose 1.5 and use 1.6. Or do i need to wait for an update?

1.6 is 1.5 with a new name so it will work okay.

Thanks

As stated earlier, the current release works with 1.5 but a pre-release, with some small improvements, is now available.

Hi Rene,

Thanks for the post.

What was the error?
Did the compile work with your project?
Which ide name did you select in Visual Micro?

Thanks

No, did not compile.I could not select the board in the Plugin. I have both the plugin and Arduino completely deleted and reinstalled after cleanup. Unfortunately, this has not helped. I am currently back on Arduino 1.0.6, Visual Studio 2012.

Hi Rene,

I think it works but you forgot to change the Visual Micro ide locations to use 1.6 instead of the 1.0.x ide option.

Visual Micro allows both versions of Arduino to be registered at the same time. For this reason there is a separate ide config option for each ide. If you are no longer using the older version of arduino you can clear the path for the Arduino 1.0.x entry.

In Visual Micro, if you use the wrong ide with the wrong ide name you will see an empty list of boards.

Thanks

No matter which IDE / path i set in the plugin: the board could not be found. In the device manager the board is properly connected. Could this be related to Winodws 8.1?

You have not confirmed that you understand my point about muliple Ide names in the Visual Micro ide locations window.

Please confirm you have spotted the Ide combo box/selection on the ide locations window and selected Arduino 1.6 before setting the path?

Thanks

Okay this suggest that updating arduino with their installer is not clearing some older stuff from the earlier install.

I will test later, if so then Vm will change to ignore old rubbish.

I would suggest installing arduino 1.6 into a new folder and leaving 1.0 as it is. Then in visual micro you can use the tool bar to switch between version instead of messing with installs.

The only reason to run the arduino installer is so that usb drivers are installed.

You will see that Arduino always provide a zip (non admin installer) as an alternative to the windows installer. The zip is the second link down below the windows installer link.

Grab the/any zip and unpack into a new folder and it will work okay.

OK. Both Versions installed. 1.0.6 is working, 1.6.0 is not:

Sometimes when i try to switch to 1.6 the board is visible but i get an compile error. Back to 1.0.6 the compile error is still present. Close Visual Studio, start neu with 1.0.6: no problems.

Thanks for the info. We have some other confusion affecting things because 1.6 is just 1.5 renamed and we have worked with it correctly. for 2 years.

Can you please post a screen shot of the ide with 1.6 selected and the error on the screen

Thanks

This time it's compiling surprisingly. But the upload fails.

Thanks, if you switch on "tools>visual micro>verbose messages" then try the upload again and post the output we should be able to see what is happening and where it fails.

Please copy and paste the output after doing that
