I tried to connect an Arduino Uno R3. With Arduino 1.6 Visual Studio can not connect. Bak to version 1.06....

No, did not compile.I could not select the board in the Plugin. I have both the plugin and Arduino completely deleted and reinstalled after cleanup. Unfortunately, this has not helped. I am currently back on Arduino 1.0.6, Visual Studio 2012.

No matter which IDE / path i set in the plugin: the board could not be found. In the device manager the board is properly connected. Could this be related to Winodws 8.1?

confirmed, Arduino 1.6 selected

Arduino IDE is 1.6. conneted to UNO R3 via USB COM6: complie and upload without problems.

Installing new Arduino 1.6 will uninstall old version by default. How can i install both versions?

OK. Both Versions installed. 1.0.6 is working, 1.6.0 is not:

Sometimes when i try to switch to 1.6 the board is visible but i get an compile error. Back to 1.0.6 the compile error is still present. Close Visual Studio, start neu with 1.0.6: no problems.

This time it's compiling surprisingly. But the upload fails.

Error compiling

No, both versions ar installed, and both versions ar working outside visual studio. If you read the log exactly you will see both paths. The Plugin shows the paths also. See attached screenshot, version 1.0.6

Okay so I asked for a 1.6 compiler output and you posted a 1.0.6 output that failed. 

However we also see in the output that 1.0.6 is installed in C:\Program Files (x86)\Arduino but we also see the compiler it is using C:\Program Files (x86)\Arduino_16

Guessing, I think you have, at some stage added a winavr path to the visual micro options. I suggest you close the ide then open regedit and delete the entire Visual Micro registry key "HKCurrentUser/Software/Visual Micro", then open the ide and add your paths to the ide locations configuration.

Also clear the sketchbook folder from ide locations prior to the compile.

If the sketchbook folder is empty in visual micro then it will find the one the arduino ide is using. this can lead to less confusion because we know we have the same config as arduino

2)
Sometimes if you run the Visual Micro repair some files are not installed (thanks microsoft)

Please run the visual micro installer and click remove, then run again and click install. Your settings will be preserved.

Well normally we would only see this if the wrong version of arduino is pointed to for the selected Visual micro ide location

I suggest these last few things...

1) Click "tools>visual micro>reset user interface"

if that doesn't work then try re-boot of your computer because it is possible that the ide is not shutting down cleanly.

finally switch on "tools>options>user interface>trace" and re-start the ide then email the trace that appears in an output window to info [at] visual micro.com. please also include a screen image of your ide again

Well thanks for your effort.

In hundreds of thousands of installs I have not seen this problem before (and it is unrelated to arduino 1.6). Maybe try vm but do not install for all users.

I guess the only other thing we can do it look more closely at your config. One thing that seemed strange was that you suggested that the arduino defaulted the sketchbook location to sketch/projects on your google drive. Normally the arduino ide uses myDocument/Arduino for sketch book location so how can this be? Do you have any information about this?

Please also say which virus checker(s) you are using and if you can see a file called applications.txt in C:\Program Files (x86)\Visual Micro\Visual Micro for Arduino\Micro Platforms

Thanks for the good info.

I agree how it appears but it is actually a simple system and is working for others with 1.6

What folders are in your sketch book folder? Is there a sub folder called hardware and if so what is in it. Maybe some older arduino config that is confusing visual micro? Might be the problem?
