Visual Studio 2015 suddenly quits

Greets to all!  Have been running VS2015 with the latest VM for a few weeks now.  With VS2015 sitting idle on some sketch in the editor, VS will suddenly quit/restart...  I've tried running  it as Admin, but it still seems to happen.  Random - no real activity going on.  I've been away from the computer for 5 - 10 mins and come back to find a restart notice or just a message that VS quit.

Just wondering if any body here has heard anything of this or may have an idea as to what is up.     Undecided

Hi Tim - have just pulled in the latest VM this afternoon - was hoping that may be the culprit, but the random quits still happen.     Shocked

Thanks for the update.

I have been trying to replicate and also to guess what the problem might be.

I suspect it is a notification about a usb or net port being shutdown by power management. It's the only thing that could be happening during unattended operation.

Having said that you can disconnect and reconnect usb cables without an issue so it's not entirely clear at the moment.

If you have any info about "special software" you have insalled, or hardware and power management info etc that might help. What about hardware and usb drivers? What and which?

thanks

Special Software? OMG - this is "Frankenstein" machine! Over 550 programs of all manner and stripe!  6 TB of disk...   Where will I start????     Cheesy

I did look in the error log - did see something related to this - will dig back and see if I can find the comment again.  Tis a bit perplexing as to why the thing should just suddenly quit...

Ok the log will be useful if you find it thanks Smiley

For better or for worse VS runs extensions in its own process. So if visual micro doesn't prevent exceptions from bubbling up to visual studio it can crash.

Generally Visual micro is well protected but an area that is new that differs from the older add-in code is managing tool windows which is where I might be looking. Did you have serial or debug running when you left your machine?
