Cannot Get VM to Install
Aug 24th, 2015 at 3:23pm

First I am a noob and really want to get VM running with AtmelStudio but I cannot get it to work.

I am running windows 7 and am following the Installation documentation here:
http://www.visualmicro.com/page/User-Guide.aspx?doc=Getting-started.html

From the start, I don't understand what "1508.14 Sp5" is?

The Installation instructions makes me think it is the version of the Arduino software but how do I find this version?

The link provided for the download is "https://www.arduino.cc/en/Main/Software" but I don't see how to find this version number?

So I have tried a number of versions of Arduino and nothing works. That is I never get the greeting "Configure Ide Locations" Window and no entries for File > New and File > Open.

I have googled and fiddled for too many nights now and cannot find the answer so I think this is something very basic that I am just not figuring out.

I appreciate any help I can get.

Hi,

Thanks for the post. I think that you probably just need to follow point 1) of the FAQ for VS2013 and below.

http://www.visualmicro.com/page/User-Guide.aspx?doc=Frequently-Asked-Questions.h...

The version of Arduino is not important but can be viewed in the title bar of the Arduino Ide. The main download on arduino.cc is currently 1.6.5r2

Look forward to hearing more

Thank you for your reply.

I have checked this first point out already and do not have any accented characters or spaces. BTW, the "this article" on this first point seems to be broken.

The other thing is I am not installing Visual Studio rather Atmel Studio so I don't think this issue applies anyway?

So I think you are saying I can use the latest version of Arduino which I have tried.

Then I install the latest Atmel Studio run it once to configure things then install the latest VM install.

Then the first boot of Atmel Studio should pop up the VM window for configuring the IDE options.

This window I never see so as suggested I try uninstalling and re-installing and nothing.

Am I understanding the installation process?

Hi, it's not the first point on the FAQ but the first point in the 2013 and below section which also mentions atmel.

Atmel studio is a cut down version of Visual Studio

The only important install item is to ensure the Visual Micro path is in addin/acro security locations list as described in the FAQ. Can you confirm to me what path you have entered please.

The FAQ section that also relates to Atmel Studio is Installation and Building Sketches - VS 2013 and below

Thanks

Thank you Visual Micro.

I proceeded to follow the second step of adding it to   Tools > Options > Environment > Add-In Security and it now works.

I did try this on a previous install of Windows last week and this did not work as it resulted in some kind of complaint.

Anyway, it works now, thank you - Steve
