Visual Studio 2015 with Visual Micro and other projects

Hi, I have installed Visual Micro plugin for Arduino successfully in Visual Studio 2015. But now my problem is that I do not see how can I switch between Visual Studio without the Visual Micro plugin and normal Visual Studio for projects based on other platforms?
Thanks.

Hi,

I am sorry I don't understand what the problem is. Visual Micro allows all standard Visual Studio features to work. Visual Micro only attempts to manage project that contain .ino source code.

Please be more clear about what you are trying to do? Create a windows project? C++ project? Web project?

And please be more clear about what you feel Visual Micro is preventing from working?

Thanks

It's maybe just because I'm totally new with these tools, but even if I'm loading a C or C++ project I still have the Arduino tools in the top menu. I do not know how to chose another target than Arduino, like Raspberry Pi over Ethernet or J-Link... It's maybe just because that I'm a beginner with Visual Studio...

Thanks for the info. Yes some confusion.

You can use the "Auto Hide" options on the "Window" menu to automatically hide the bars when not in an Arduino project. However, normally the bars only do something when in an Arduino project or when attempting to burn a bootloader which does not require a project.

To create or open standard Visual Studio projects in Visual Studio you use the "File>New>Project" menu

Visual Studio does not support the Raspberry pi, Visual Micro might add support for it in the future.

By the way you can also install new hardware using this guide http://www.visualmicro.com/page/User-Guide.aspx?doc=Board-Manager.html

Hi thank you for your prompt answers. But Visual Studio can already be used with Raspberry Pi as well as Arduino with Windows 10 IoT core https://ms-iot.github.io/content/en-US/GetStarted.htm.

Yes for windows 10 and arduino you have to upload the "remote control" firmata sketch which Visual Micro can do for you.

For windows 10 windows devices you can use visual studio to program and make use of the arduino

For windows 10 on raspberry you can visual studio to upload a windows 10 op sys to the raspberry or use any other published tools to program the raspberry. However, development for the standard Linux on Raspberry is not yet possible without some help.

For Intel you can use either the Arduino core (install using the Visual Micro Board Manager) and Visual Micro or build. Or use Windows programs using standard Visual Studio

Visual Micro does not prevent the standard Visual Studio features from working it simply provides the ability to program and debug Arduino and Arduino compatible hardware from Visual Studio. Otherwise you must use the Arduino Ide to upload your Arduino programs.

EDIT
Just to be clear. Windows 10 IoT is very simple Arduino and more complex Windows programs to communicate with the Arduino. Microsoft provide some Arduino libraries all of which can be used in Visual Studio with Visual Micro. Microsoft expect you to use the Arduino Ide to program your Arduino's but Visual Micro allows that to happen in Visual Studio

Thanks again, and that is the primary reason why I was interested by Visual Micro for Arduino. Enables you to use a professional IDE tool for C / C++ with librairies already developed for Arduino.

Great to hear that thanks.

It will be useful to add some windows IoT examples in our docs. I haven't had time to experiment yet. If you find or make anything and have time please post or send me an email to projects[at]visualmicro.com
