Trouble getting started!

Hi,
I've installed the plugin using VS 2015 (Community Edition)'s extensions manager (v 1509.14.0).  I got the setup dialogue, pointed it at my Arduino IDE installation (1.6.2) (both optional fields are empty) but I get a message saying 0 boards available.

I have C++ installed.

When I use Visual Micro Explorer, where it says "check the links" they all work except for the "user Hardware" link which throws an error saying it can't find the specified file... but I can't see anywhere to specify that.

Any ideas?  I HATE the Arduino IDE so I can't wait to use VS instead!

Thanks,
Oliver

P.S. I created the LED blink test project too, but that won't load the .ino file - it says it's been moved, renamed or deleted - but I've never actually even opened it!

Hi,

Thanks for the good info.

Arduino 1.6.2 should have been called Arduino 1.7 because it contained a fundamental change involving the release of the Board Manager tool. In 1.6.2 the standard Arduino (avr) board defs were not supplied, instead they were installed via the Board Manager. In Arduino 1.6.3+ they reversed the decision about the standard avr definitions.

For this reason 1.6.2 is the only Arduino version that we don't support.

The latest release of arduino is 1.6.5-r2. I suggest you install that because it is the same as 1.6.2 but with board defs.

Visual Micro does fully support the Board Manager (see docs) however it relies on the fact that at least one set of definitions are supplied with the Arduino Ide. Hence the need for Arduino 1.6.3+ or 1.6.1 and below.

Thanks Tim - I thought I was on the latest Arduino IDE build as I'm sure it prompted me to update a while back, so I assumed it would continue to do so.  Just another reason not to use the thing! Smiley

Great.

Yes you have to manually update the Arduino ide when prompted. Otherwise it's worth doing a couple of times per year, everything at Arduino is changing fast at the moment.

Great. If you get a chance to add a star rating in the gallery that would be much appreciated right now.

A new windows 10 user has confused the standard windows prompt to "back up the file encryption key" with a Trojan caused by installing Visual Micro.

Just goes to show that no matter how much effort is applied, a right hook will always come from somewhere  Smiley Smiley Smiley
