Before logging an issue, please update to the latest release of Visual Micro from the Downloads Page.

When Logging a Support Issue in the Forum, please ensure you have also:-

  • Enabled vMicro > Compiler > Show Build Properties
  • Re-Compile your program with these settings enabled
  		Save the new Output to a Text File and....
  • Click the Reply button and attach as .txt file OR
  • Click here to Email us with the file attached, and a link to your post
Support requests without the output above may be impossible to answer, so please help us to help you

Atmel Studio 7 plugin installation failure

Hello everybody,

My first post in here. I have been using Visual Micro with Atmel Studio 6 for quite some time and I totally love it.

Recently I updated my system and installed Atmel Studio 7 and tried numerous times to get Visual Micro plugin installed without any success.

I tried 2 different ways to install the plugin:
1) Through the "extensions and update" window inside AS:
Got a .msi installation file, ran it, installed it but then next time I open Atmel Studio, I do not see the integration of Visual Micro. (tried also many times to remove/re-install it, no success)

2) Throught Visual Micro download page:
Got the .vsix, opened it with "Microsoft VSIX Installer" as it's written there but nothing happens.


The plugin installation was working fine with Visual Studio 2015 but I would really like to use Atmel Studio instead of VS.


I also thought that since I have different versions of visual studio installed on my computer, the vsix installer was maybe confused. So I uninstalled all Atmel and Visual related programs and started from scratch but still nothing.

Now I am running out of ideas on why it doesn't work and your help will be much appreciated.

Hi, the msi is for as6.2 only. The vsix is the right solution but make sure you visit our downloads page which directs you to the correct installer for as7. It's different to the Visual Studio one.

After running the vsix please report what it says. Does it see atmel studio 7.0 and allow you to click next or install?

Hi,

I just found the solution to my problem: in the VSIXInstaller properties, I select "Run as administrator" and then it worked.

Why I was confused before is that when I was launching the vsix with the installer, nothing was happening: no windows, no messages, no nothing.

Now it seems all good, will let you know if I see some problems.

Thanks for the update. Hopefully that helps others. For most it automatically prompts for "Elevated Permissions" so it would be nice to know your op sys and any special permissions you do not allow?

Yes sure,

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 with Win7 Professional 64-bit, with SP1. I am not aware of any special restrictions on this computer though.
