Sounds from your other post you don't yet have vs2015 installed.

I don't really know this is microsoft and atmels domain. I just use the standard vsix installer and it works for everyone else that I know of.

Maybe try a reboot.  If that fails try right clikcing the vsix and running as administrator. Ensuring you have right clicked the vsix and set it to always run using the VSIXInstaller from the 14 version of Visual Studio. I don't know why atmel have not done this during their as7 install.

I assume you have downloaded as7 recently and are not using the old beta version

Please help!
Looks like I am getting a similar error while attempting to install VM to AS7.

Steps history:
- Had AS6.2 + VM nicely installed and worked perfectly for quite some time
- Updated from win7pro to win10pro
- Updated Arduino IDE from 1.6.4 to 1.6.6
- Installed AS7 (file: "as-installer-7.0.634-web.exe") + VS 2015 Redistributable 14.xx
- Downloaded and executed VSIX file: "Visual.Micro.Atmel.Studio.vsix" from VM suggested link
- Error: "Installation Failed"
- Red VM forum  : )
- Uninstalled AS6.2, uninstalled AS7, rebooted the system
- Installed AS7 back
- Attempt to install VM again, but the same Error: "Installation Failed" 
(Looks like VM does not see my AS7 installation)

Had the same problem. But got it working now...
1)
Browse to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 14.0\Common7\IDE

2)
Right click and choose properties for: VSIXInstaller.exe

3)
Compatability tab check: Run as administrator

4)
Right click Visual.Micro.Atmel.Studio.vsix that you downloaded from https://visualstudiogallery.msdn.microsoft.com/0cb4039b-4173-40cb-86ff-96522bee0...
and choose properties.

5) At the bottom right select unblock. then press apply.

6) Press Change the open with and navigate to the file in step 1 and 2. Then press Ok

7) Now you can double click that file and it will install into Atmel studio 7
