Hello all,

Hope you can Support me with my Problem.

I tried to find a similar topic and as well a solution within the forum but unfortunately not.

If I would compile my code with standard Arduino IDE it would work perfect but in case I use Atmel Studio6 with VisualMicro I get the following error:
Compiling 'LED_Fader_2.0' for 'Arduino/Genuino Uno'
e.a: No such file or directory
Error creating .elf

Thank you for the support.

Hi,

I have looked at this again and the problem is probably that you have a . in the name of the sketch "Led_Fader_2.0"

I think this causes issues with Visual Studio and probably also with Visual Micro. Visual Micro could be updated but I think that will just cause more confusion.

Historically Arduino has only allowed simple names for the .ino files, especially avoiding dots and colons etc because they clash with file system extensions and drive names.

Arduino has obviously changed this. I will look at what they do I suspect they rename the temp build copy of your code in background during compile. That will work because the arduino ide does not have to read the "valid" source codes to create intellisense but it's probably going to be a problem with other programs such as VS.

If you want to change the name of the sketch here are some rules:-

  • The folder name and the master .ino must be the same
  • The atmel or visual studio project name must also be the same

Visual Micro will only provide arduino functionality if these rules are met, otherwise it will go to sleep and leave each Ide to try to compile they way it normally would, which will not work.
