How to install Visual Studio 2015 after installing Atmel Studio 7

Print Post
Hi,
I used visual micro successfully on Atmel Studio 6.2 up to November 2015.
Now after almost 3 months of break I tried to use it for a new project but on Atmel Studio 6.2 did not exist anymore visual micro.
I tried to reinstall it by downloading the latest version.
I purchased a new license because the old license said it was already used or something like it!
But now I can not compile the software and when I press Build in Atmel Studio, this long message appears:

Quote:
System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'Atmel.Studio.Services.Interfaces, Version=7.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=d264112969646cc9' or one of its dependencies. Impossibile trovare il file specificato.
File name: 'Atmel.Studio.Services.Interfaces, Version=7.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=d264112969646cc9'
   at Visual.Micro.Visual.Studio.Arduino.AddInApp.CompileDo(Project oProject, Boolean IsDebugStartCommand)
at Visual.Micro.Visual.Studio.Arduino.AddInApp.OnBeforeCommandEvent(String sGuid, Int32 ID, Object CustomIn, Object CustomOut, Boolean& CancelDefault)

WRN: Assembly binding logging is turned OFF.
To enable assembly bind failure logging, set the registry value [HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Fusion!EnableLog] (DWORD) to 1.
Note: There is some performance penalty associated with assembly bind failure logging.
To turn this feature off, remove the registry value [HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Fusion!EnableLog].

I tried to install Visual Studio 7.0 but visual micro is not visualized in Tools or some other place.

please someone can help me?

Thanks

Davide

Hi,

Thanks for the info. If you have a license key issue then please email visualmicro.com, no need to buy another license.

Atmel 7 and Visual Studio 2015 do not support the older addin system that AS6.2 supports.

There is an updated version of visual micro for AS7 available from the downloads page on visualmicro.com. However I recommend installing Visual Studio 2015 Community instead.

AS7 is very buggy at the moment and Visual Studio 2015 community is free and stable. + The last release of visual micro is not available for AS7 yet and supports Arduino 1.6.7 and below.

Hi David,

Sales/license renewal or transfer need to be handled via email.

Product usage and tech support via the forum.

You have two separate unrelated questions which is why you have two answers Smiley

Install and general usage is unaffected by license discussion. Plus if you had visual micro uinstalled then you had a problem it would have been easier to handle with you in the forum prior to your attempting to uninstall and reinstall any software.

I think the initial problem was you were using an older version of visual micro in free mode. That is was not activated. It would expire unless a key was used. I would have reset your key had you emailed it because it sounds like you used it once some time ago, then reinstalled or changed user, so the key was needed again.

Good morning,
excuse me for my inexperience, I understand that licensing issues are to be disccussi via email, sorry.

I think I understand why visualmicro addins were no longer in Atmel Studio 6.2.
This winter, with the help of my friend, I changed my little home server. This change has brought a change of admin resulting in the loss of all settings of my programs.

Now the problem is that after installing the latest version of VM, I can not make it work with Atmel Studio 6.2 and also with Atmel Studio 7.0

Now I'll try to make other attempts, maybe I communicate by email my license numbers to verify them.

thank you
David

Hi,

Thanks very much for the info. The license issue will not affect the install so lets get that working first.

You should certainly stay away from atmel 7.0 it is a nightmare to support at the moment and visual micro for atmel will probably be discontinued if they don't put some more effort into it very soon.

When you install atmel studio (6 or 7) it first installs visual studio and then installs atmel studio over the top. So Visual studio is a  simpler and cleaner install. During the past year or so Microsoft have made Visual Studio free when previously it was expensive. The cost of VS was the only reason for supporting atmel studio (which does not support as many "arduino" boards as visual studio)

I can find you an older install of visual micro but I strongly recommend installing Visual Studio 2015 Community making sure you click "Custom Install" and select the C++ options.

VS2015 gives you an infinitely better ide. You will understand how VS 2015 works because it is quite similar to Atmel studio.

The versions of Visual Micro for AS6.2 and VS2015 are different. Both can be installed without affecting each other. Both share the same Visual Micro license system.

Thank you very much for your advice.
unfortunately I'm living a nightmare, because when I try to install visual studio 2015 appears a fatal error.

I do not know how to do.
I'll try to ask help from a few friends to see if they solve the problem. I hope!  Smiley

thank you

Hi

Problem installing Visual Studio 2015?

You should first use control panel to uninstall atmel studio 7.0 and also the "Visual Studio 2015 Shell" that atmel installs.

Then install Visual Studio 2015 Community

I hope that fixes it for you.
