Installation Problem - Atmel Studio 7 with 6.2 already installed

I am trying to migrate from Atmel 6.2 to 7.0.  I downloaded the newest EXE and it said it installed fine, yet starting Atmel 7, it doesn't show up.  I re-run the Micro install and it asks to repair or remove, so clearly it is installed in some sense.

I am also running 6.2 and the Visual Micro install is there, and was installed before i added 7.0 to the pc.   Is there an additional step i need to take to get the extension to show up under Atmel 7.0?

Note I am running this on Windows 7, but on VMWare Fusion (on a Macbook).  I can create a fresh virtual win7 and install Atmel 7 and get Visual Micro to work, but I would like 6.2 and 7 running concurrently while I migrate all my projects.

Thanks.

Hi,

Via control panel uninstall atmel studio 7 and also the Visual Studio 2015 shell that it installed.

Then install visual studio 2015 community edition making sure you select custom>C++ during install.

Then you will have the new system in VS2015 and the old system in AS6.2 running side by side.

Do not bother with atmel studio 7 it is currently very buggy and causes many problems.

Thanks, I had that as a fallback position.  Unfortunately, there is no clear path to migrate project files from AT 6.2 to VS 7.0, so all the projects need rebuilding, which i wanted to avoid.  Any ideas on the compatibility issue between the two packages?  Is there a translation utility?

I would have thought AT would have used a project file structure similar to VS to avoid this problem, although for sure they would rather we all use AT and not VS....

You just have to use "file>open>arduino project" and visual micro will automatically create a project with your code.

The project files are not very important, most visual micro settings are in a folder below the project for this reason.

Remember to uninstall the 2015 shell that atmel install. The version they install is old and conflicts with real visual studio versions
