Arduino Zero Compile and Upload Blink - Serial Debug

I'm regular/pro VS user so I'm not challenged with the Visual Studio part. However, when I debug, not happens besides deploying the code to my Arduino Zero.

That is the IDE does not stop at break points. The "Automatic Debugging" menu item is checked and the Debug Trace Only item is unchecked.

In the Serial Monitor window (that pops up), when I click the envelope icon (I wish there were hints on these icon buttons so one can tell what they are), the Debug LED on the Zero board goes off for a bit and comes back on. However, the IDE as a whole seems completely inert.

I also tried creating the Blinky project using the File | New | Arudino project option and writing the blinky code. LED does not blink. But the Debug LED does respond as above.
