Atmel Studio together with MS Visual Studio
Mar 13th, 2016 at 6:55pm

Could Atmel Studio7 and MS Visual Studio be both installed with Visual Micro ? Has two separate installations on the same Desktop ? Would they interfere with each other ? What kind of problems could be expected ?

I have all versions of Visual Studio and As6.2 installed on the same machine. It's not a problem for Visual Micro.

BUT I have had problems trying to install both Atmel studio 7.0 and Visual Studio 2015. This is because AS7 installs a  "VS2015 Shell" which is old and the wrong version.

For this reason I stay away from Atmel Studio 7.0 and have reported the conflict to both atmel and microsoft.

I gave it a try and installed AS7. First, it opens up OK appart from the fact that the startup page is not accessing whatever it is suppose to, instead it display an error message like "System.Windows.Markup.XamlParseException loading..." see picture attached.  Furthermore, and most importantly, Visual Micro is not implemented in AS7, only in Visual Studio. I tried to rerun the Visual Micro install file Visual.Micro.Arduino.Studio.vsix but it will generate an error stating that VM is already installed.
Any suggestions before I revert to install AS6 ?

The visual micro install for as6.2 is different to the one for AS7. Simply open AS6.2 and install via tools>extensions and updates.

It is recommended that you uninstall atmel products and use Visual Studio 2015 Community. It's easier to support.
