Sorry for the delay. There is a new release 1604.12 and I would appreciate knowing if it is improved.

But now it's usable.

Yes I am going to convert the top and bottom parts to tool stips.

Then I think it will work better.

Or make a wpf version.

Anyway I agree it needs more work. Thanks for the update.

Thanks for the update.

I will be looking into why the combo boxes are not scaling their width but might just move to wpf as soon as possible.

Can you confirm the visual micro version number from "tools>extensions and updates>installed>arduino ide for vs"

I am seeing this:-

Version is 1604.18.0

And depending how you navigate to the combo the tooltip makes it hard to open the combo.
A configuration to disable them all would be nice.

They are standard windows tips.

If you click the object such as speed instead of just hovering do they go away?

Can I please see screen shot with wide serial monitor so all 3 combos are showing at the bottom.

Thanks

Okay I think I have replicated the tool tip but correct me if this is wrong.

The tool tip only appears on top of the comboboxes if the bottom of the serial monitor is at the lowest part of the ide and the Ide is maximized leaving windows with no space below or the right to show the tip?

I also see the monitor is docked along with the output and find tabs which means code edit is difficult when the serial monitor is open.

This might be ideal for you and maybe you are sending long packets in the monitor but I would like to be sure this is the issue so can you please dock the monitor

1) so it is on right or left with less width. The comboboxes should wrap to the overflow where I hope the tooltips appear in a better location?

2) undock by dragging the serial monitor tab name, hold the CTRL key to stop it attempting to re-dock. when the monitor is un-docked I expect you still see the same issue if you maximize the window but no issue when no maximize with plenty of room for windows to display the tool tip other than on top of each control?

I hope you can see I am trying to determine if windows gets it right when it has space to draw the tips? This will help be be sure of what the solution might need to be.

That's nearly right.
But it is also when the serial monitor is docked in the lower left corner and to the right there is enough space for the tooltip.

The controls in the overflow have no issue with the tooltips. The speed combo never goes to the overflow.

Yes. If there is enough room below the serial monitor, does not matter if docked or not, it ist OK. But if the lower border of the serial monitor comes near the lower end of the screen, ist starts hiding the combo, even if there is enough room right of it.

By the way, that's not a big problem, I can work. It's a "could be better if possible" topic   Smiley
And it also is not urgent.

Thanks, I appreciate the comments. It's useful to have you reporting and testing because it will no doubt affect others and different dpi and size screens are difficult to test.

In theory windows is responsible for the tips. The screen just uses the standard windows forms tooltip system which doesn't involve any intervention or visual micro code. So I am surprised about how your version of windows is handling the tips.

Which version of windows are you using?
