i have installed Atmel Studio 7 on my windows 7 computer.  I downloaded Visual.Micro.Arduino.Studio.vsix file.  However, when I try to run it, it says "The Extension Manifest is Invalid"

What does that mean?  Why does it not install?

Hi,

The problem is that microsoft made a mistake when the released the vs2015 shell that atmel studio uses. They set is to use the earlier vsix v1 format.

If you install from within the ide via "tools>extensions and updates>online" the ide will use the v1 vsixinstaller.exe included in the ide tools.

If you run from outside of atmel studio then, depending on what versions of vs you have installed, windows tries to run a v2 vsixinstaller.exe from a different visual studio installation.

Because the atmel gallery was designed for visual stuio 2010 and because of this issue, it only allows v1 format vsix files to be uploaded. So visual micro produces the atmel extension using a v1 vsix manifest that requires a older vsixinstaller.exe from the atmel studio install.

Everything I think of this I need extra tea. Ugggh Smiley
