avrdude is unhappy - after many months of perfect running!

I've been working on this project for months - uploading over and over to a Nano - and all has been fine.  NOW - within the past half hour I can no do a compile and upload - I get the "uploader returned an error" and infamous 10 'get_sync() errors.

Any guesses as to what might bring on such a sudden failure?   Shocked

Hmm - have plugged to various USB ports (have an expander in addition to ones on PC) - still same failure. Went so far as to throw in another Nano and STILL avrdude is complaining and I can't get an upload.  Any other ideas?    Undecided

a direct usb connection with good quality usb cable is best test.

Did you power the pc off and restart?

Does it always come up on the same COM port? If so did you try changing it in device manager > port >advanced properties.

Which board is it and how big is the compiled program?
