Auto re-connect serial monitor after upload fail

Hi,

During an upload via the serial port the serial port is disconnected. When the upload successfully completes it is automatically reconnected.

However if an upload via serial fails the serial port does not reconnect to the device.

This means I have to manually reconnect (push the Connect button) which is a pain...

Can it function the same way as when an upload is successful, i.e. automatically re-connect?

This is not the same as the Auto-Recon button which is related to the hardware being plugged in.

Thanks for the report.

Currently the software does not Auto-Open the Serial Monitor when the upload fails as it could be the failed upload means it will not be able to connect to the board (depending on where the upload process has failed).

Is the issue that you are using multiple COM Ports (e.g. one for upload, and one for the Serial Monitor) so the upload can fail if the Serial Port selected is only for Serial Output?

If you can give more detail around this we can consider it for development if there is not an alternative workaround available.

Hi, no just using a single port. I know if there is a problem on the port it doesn´t reconnect and this is ok. The annoyance is that the port is ok but the upload didn´t happen correctly so it doesn´t even try..

An example, using an Arduino mini with only RX, TX and ground. I do an upload but
don´t press the reset button in time so the upload fails. My fault. But then I have to manually reconnect even if I do another upload that is successful. Nothing wrong with the port, just the operator..me.

Have you enabled auto reconnect on the serial monitor status bar?

Yes. Auto reconnect works if I physically unplug a device then plug it back in. It doesn´t affect reconnect on an upload failure.
